Last week, the organization I picked was the WORLD FORUM FOUNDATION (WFF), which can be found at: http://worldforumfoundation.org/. I picked this organization because it's focus is on children and leaving global impacts on them through their mission and the quality of services provided to young children and their families.
Since, selecting this site, I have become their "FAN" on FB (facebook) and it's amazing to read about the different programs they have and people who work through them have. From their FB site I learned of a "connect module on family-professor partnerships" that's applicable for home visiting, early intervention and other 0-3 settings.
I also read the different posts from people who support the organization or just want to learn more about it. I've even found my fellow classmate K. Yapp on there inquiring more about the organization (small world :0) ).
But the one thing that caught my attention this week from their official website was that not only does the WFF meet every two years with 600 - 800 early childhood professionals from more than 80 countries around the world; but in 2002 they launched "EC eTeaching", which is the use of distance education technology to further educate EC professionals. According to the WFF this tool helps EC professionals learn from each other, support each others work, and identify practices that can help to improve the education of EC professionals world wide. This tool is suppose to "foster the effective use of technology to provide for the education of the world's early childhood workforce" (WFF).
So I guess, it's like an ongoing conference between its members. An Ecommunity where you can bounce idea's off of each other. TELL ME....HOW AWESOME IS THAT????
Any who...I'll keep you posted on anything else that I find out about this organization....so come back and visit soon!
World Forum Foundation sounds like a fantastic website and community for early childhood teachers. You mentioned the EC e Teaching... that's AWESOME! What a great way to keep in contact with other EC professionals around the world! I will definitely be visiting their website :)
ReplyDeleteI think that this type of community on line is an excellent way to obtain knowledge and network with other professionals. I sometimes miss the face to face interaction but it is obviously so much more convienent to log on while in your own bedroon and certainly more cost effective!
ReplyDeleteVicki,
ReplyDeleteGreat post!
Isn't it great when you find new inforamtion and it adds to your desire to help more? I know this assignment was difficult, but it also made me look outside the box and there, I discovered some really useful resources.
Vicki - I love that their focus is globally and not just community based. We as ECE professionals do need to learn to look beyond our own backyards and find alternate ideas and resources from other countries. Great site!
ReplyDeleteI loved your post. I am going to check them out!! I love the idea of the distance learning. I am going to check them out on Facebook. Thanks!!
