WEEK 7: Code of Ethics

The code of ethics of the Division for Early Childhood (DEC), is a public statement of principles and practice guidelines supported by the mission of DEC. If you familiarize yourself with the NAEYC Code of Ethical statements, you will find out that their ethics code sets a framework of professional responsibilities in four sections. You can find these code of ethics at  http://sylvan.live.ecollege.com/ec/courses/53029/CRS-CW 4477713/educ6005_readings/naeyc_codeofethicspdf.pdf).

Each section addresses an area of professional relationships: FIRST - with children, SECONDLY - with families, THIRDLY - among colleagues, and FINALLY -  with the community and society.

Now there are some that stick out more than others, but out of all of the ethical codes there are three that stick out most to me.  I'll paraphrase which ones they are:

(1) Demonstrating in behaviour and language our respect for each child's uniqueness:
                 -  Each child may age the same, but they're different and have personalities. We should  love and embrace their qualities instead of trying to change them into something they are not

(2) Respecting our colleagues diversity regardless of creed, race, religious beliefs etcetera, etcetera.
                 - Our "workmates" are also there to help children. Regardless of what we may think of them from a personal standpoint, we should still respect what they're there to do and what they are capable of bringing to the table. ( or in layman's terms: "stop hating",  ;0) lol)

(3) Respecting a family's right to chose/refuse services or related services to EC special  education:
                  - It may be you're professional OPINION what a child may need, but guess what....sometimes the parent DOES KNOW what's best for their child.

I think if you're an educator you should familiarize yourself with these ethics, and find out which ones appeal most to you!
