For our blog assignment this week, we had to think of someone, who in our opinion demonstrates competent communication skills within a particular context.
To be a competent communicator, one needs the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to perform their work adequately. When I think of competent communicators that I know personally; there are so many in my life which I can pattern myself after. But the one that comes to my mind FIRST right now is my Pastor, Dr. Valerie Foster.
Not only is she a Sheppard over her flock, but she's a social worker/counselor and helps a great deal of children, teens and adults of all ages.
The greatest behavior that she exhibits that makes her effective in her work is her confidence. She holds her head up high, speaks in a loud clear voice and is very sure of herself. And best of all she isn't afraid of saying something that may hurt your feelings, ESPECIALLY if it will save your soul!
Because of that, I would like to model some of my own communication behaviors after her because I would like to exude that same confidence and be sure of myself. I will love to one day know that not only children look up to me but my peers and colleagues as well. That I hold myself in such a way that not only I have great confidence in myself but others have that same confidence in me as well.
