TV Show Experience

This week's blog assignment is a very INTERESTING one.  Not interesting as in it was so fun to do but interesting like....hey that's new.   I had to watch an episode of a television show that I do not normally watch.  FIRST with the sound off to try to interpret their body language and then with the sound on to see if I was right (more or less, lol).

I went to tubeplus.me because it's an internet archive where I can watch free full length tv shows and movies online.  So this site was very handy for this assignment.  I chose something that I thought would be funny and do not normally watch, "MELISSA AND JOEY".

From watching it with sound off, solely on what I saw based on how they communicated I thought the the characters were somewhat annoyed with each other and were having a problem that stemmed from a leak in the ceiling and they didn't quite know how to talk about.  I thought that at times they were feeling a little uneasy around each other in this episode and tried to "play it off" so the other person wouldn't expect anything.  But when I turned the sound on, I found out I was somewhat right.  The problem didn't stem from a leak but there was a problem.  Joey was moving out and the lives of Melissa and the children were about to change and Melissa didn't know if she was developing feelings for him.  By her body language when the sound was off I knew at times she was flustered and uncomfortable, and by his body language he just seemed oblivious.  When the sound was on it proved what I thought.  Although, some times I was wrong I mistook being uneasy as being passive.

What I learned from this blog assignment, is that body language can tell you a lot, but sometimes it can be misunderstood and a person can take what you are doing the wrong way.  So it's important in life to be mindful of what you are doing and encourage people to understand what you really mean. :0)

  1. I enjoy watching Melissa and Joey show because their nonverbal communication is as clear as a picture. I agree with you that it is important to remain mindful of how others communicate. Some are painfully shy. Some are blunt. However one communicates there is always a style that one uses.
